The Vietnam War Memorial at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in Montross, Virginia, was my first important commission as a sculptor and is the first Vietnam Veteran Memorial in the USA. The unveiling ceremony was very emotional, but since the Vietnam War was still very unpopular (in 1980) Governor Robb at that time asked his Lieutenant Governor to perform the ceremony.
Montross is a small town from which many young men had lost their lives in Vietnam. The sculpture was paid with the proceeds of several barbeques and yard sales organized by the citizens of Montross.
The sculpture was cast in bronze by myself in my own foundry at the time.
